Learning Opportunities for Counselors


WAICU School Counselor Workshops

WAICU hosts School Counselor Workshops around the state and in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in northern Illinois, providing an opportunity for school counselors to meet with the admission representatives from our member colleges and universities.  Wisconsin workshops are held in the fall. Rolling Meadows, Illinois and Minneapolis, Minnesota events are held in March.

Workshops will include:
  • What you need to know about the FAFSA and financial aid
  • The latest information on affordability and benefits of private colleges
  • Updates from colleges on the most popular majors and what's new on campus
  • The chance to speak 1-to-1 with admissions representatives and get the answers to your questions 
  • New resources and materials for you and your students
  • Networking with colleagues
     

Sample agenda (continental breakfast and lunch will be provided):
  9:00 AM      Registration for school counselors | Continental breakfast
  9:30 AM      Welcome and presentation by WAICU staff
  9:50 AM      Brief remarks by college admission representatives (8 colleges)
10:15 AM      Breakout session #1: meet with individual college admission reps
10:35 AM      Brief remarks by college admission representatives (7 colleges)
11:00 AM      Breakout session #2: roundtable discussions
11:20 AM      Brief remarks by college admission representatives (7 colleges)
11:45 AM      Breakout session #3: meet with individual college admission reps
12:00 PM      Lunch: admission representatives available for questions and conversation

12:30 PM      Optional campus tour (when applicable)

College seminar tour

Each summer, counselors are invited to register for a weeklong College Seminar tour that includes visits to colleges and universities in Wisconsin and neighboring states.  Participants can earn 3 DPI-approved credits through Marian University.  For more information, check out the website, call 920-923-7650 or email cst@marianuniversity.edu
