Just three years ago, Bellin College launched Healthcare Academy, an initiative designed to give students an early look at healthcare careers while simultaneously helping to address workforce shortages across northeast Wisconsin.  

What started as a small pilot program with two partner high schools and thirty-nine students has grown into a regional collaboration serving 430 students from seventeen partner schools in 2025. Bellin College anticipates expanding the program to twenty schools this year. 

Healthcare Academy allows high school students to earn college credit while exploring careers in healthcare. Through Bellin College coursework, hands-on events, job shadowing opportunities, and interactions with healthcare professionals, students gain firsthand exposure to a variety of healthcare fields before graduating from high school. These experiences provide valuable insight into both the academic and professional expectations of working in healthcare. 

“The most rewarding part of the Healthcare Academy is seeing students gain confidence and clarity about their future,” said Director of Outreach and Engagement at Bellin College, Chad Dall. “By combining college coursework with hands-on experiences, we’re helping them make informed decisions and take meaningful steps toward healthcare careers.” 

The program helps students better understand the educational pathways and career opportunities available to them. Students also have opportunities to connect with healthcare professionals and learn about the many career paths available within the healthcare industry. Whether they are interested in nursing, medical imaging, or another healthcare profession, students can begin exploring options early and make more informed decisions about their futures. 

Beyond its impact on students, the Bellin College Healthcare Academy is helping build a pipeline of future healthcare professionals for the region. The initiative also strengthens partnerships among high schools, healthcare organizations, and community leaders who share a commitment to preparing the next generation of caregivers.
