For many high school football players, the dream of playing at the collegiate level is often sidelined not by a lack of talent, but by a lack of access. Costly combine fees and travel requirements can keep local athletes hidden from recruiters. 

Enter the IgniteMKE Showcase. Hosted by the Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) Warriors football program at the college’s Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa, this free annual event has become a vital pipeline for Milwaukee-area student-athletes.  

What began in 2021 with eighty participants has kept growing, drawing 235 rising juniors and seniors on April 30, 2026, to compete in front of NCAA Division I, II, and III and junior college football coaches from across the Midwest. 

For Warriors Head Football Coach Eric Treske —a 2008 graduate of WLC —the mission extends beyond the gridiron; it’s about supporting the community. “The hope behind this event is that we want to give kids the opportunity to find the school that’s right for them, and we want to take away any barriers of cost or travel,” said Treske. “We love our city, and we want to help the kids in our area grow the gifts that we know God gave them.” 

Beyond running drills, participants gain crucial exposure and build direct connections with college football coaching staffs. For many, it’s their first real glimpse into the expectations of higher education and collegiate athletics. Attendees shared how they left the showcase inspired by their new connections and knowledge.  

“We’ve had kids say that this is their first showcase, and that they never really understood what was expected of them before,” Treske said.  

By removing financial barriers, the IgniteMKE Showcase ensures that Milwaukee’s overlooked talent gets a fair shot at a life-changing college education.
