Scaling Up Success: Mount Mary Alumna Shapes Wisconsin Business Dreams
Since 2014, Marjorie Rucker, Mount Mary University class of 2000, has served as executive director of The Business Council Inc., a membership association that assists ethnic and diverse businesses with scale and growth through supplier diversity initiatives with public and private organizations across Wisconsin.
She has received wide recognition for her efforts. In 2020, the Milwaukee Business Journal named Marjorie as one of the year’s Women of Influence award recipients. This February, Marjorie was one of four community change-makers recognized by Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson for their contributions to the city in honor of Black History Month. In February, she also was recognized as a notable BIPIOC executive by the Milwaukee Business News.
Marjorie’s education at Mount Mary University played an important role in her success. “If it weren’t for Mount Mary, I don’t think I would have had the confidence to succeed,” Rucker told the Milwaukee Business News. “Being surrounded by women and many nontraditional students in age and background really opened my eyes to the world and what I could achieve.” In addition to her history degree from Mount Mary, she holds a juris doctorate degree from Vermont Law School.
