WAICU, Students Advocate for Wisconsin Grant Funding Increase

Pictured from left to right in Representative Karen Hurd’s office are staff member Jon Minneci, Edgewood College students Drea B. and Alexandra N., and WAICU President Eric W. Fulcomer.

As the 2025–2027 state budget process unfolds, the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) continues to advocate strongly for our top legislative priority of doubling the Wisconsin Grant appropriation from $57 million to $114 million for students attending Wisconsin’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities.

During these legislative conversations, WAICU is amplifying the voices that matter most—our students.

When WAICU President Eric Fulcomer met with legislators at the Wisconsin State Capitol May 6, he was joined by two Wisconsin Grant recipients from Edgewood College. Drea Boeger and Alexandra Nadolski shared personal stories about how the grant shaped their educational journeys.

Wisconsin Grant recipient Drea is a junior majoring in Political Science, Pre-Law, and History with a minor in Art History. She is preparing for a career in law.

“I receive the Wisconsin Grant as well as a handful of other government funded grants,” Drea shared. “These grants help me go to college without graduating with immeasurable amounts of debt as well as going to college in general. These grants have helped me get as far as I am today and will continue to help me greatly throughout my final year at Edgewood.”

Alexandra, a senior Sociology and Criminal Justice major who intends to pursue graduate school in criminal justice after graduation told legislators, “These grants have eased my financial burden, allowing me to focus on academics, leadership, and service.”

WAICU will continue to elevate student stories and work for equitable access to higher education through strong state investment in the Wisconsin Grant program.
