Rebecca Larson, WAICU Executive Vice President for External Relations, was joined by Mark Quistorf of Marian University, and Ellen Eickhoff of Lakeland University, at the Joint Finance Committee Hearing in Wausau on April 29.

Testifying as a group, they shared information on the Wisconsin Grant’s impact on students attending their institutions and in support of WAICU’s request to double the Wisconsin Grant appropriation for students in our sector. The public hearing took place at the Northcentral Technical College and was the fourth in a series of hearings held around the state.

The speakers highlighted the critical importance of the grant in supporting low-income students who rely on this support to access and complete college. Wisconsin is falling behind other Midwestern states in financial aid investment. And, with the Higher Educational Aids Board already placing a waitlist on awards for 2025–2026, failure to act could lead to a reduction in the maximum student award of $4,850.
