Federal Call to Action in Support of Student Aid
Earlier this month, WAICU requested our advocacy network to take action by contacting members of the U.S. Congress to express support for federal student aid in advance of a U.S. Senate vote on the continuing resolution to keep the government funded through September 30.
We needed assurances from Congress and the president’s federal administration that student aid programs and research funding would not be cut. We asked that funding levels for the upcoming academic year be set immediately to provide certainty for students. With one day’s notice, sixty-one individuals reached out to their members of Congress to convey this important message.
All members of the Wisconsin delegation were contacted before the vote took place the next day. With so many changes happening nationally, including the executive order to close the Department of Education, it’s important for higher education to remain engaged to ensure student opportunity and access to higher education.
If you have not already done so, be sure to sign up for our advocacy network to receive action alerts at key times during the legislative process. You will be asked to contact your elected officials in support of Wisconsin’s private college and universities and our students.
